Years
ago in social gatherings when I was asked what I did and I responded that I was
a teacher people would just walk away. However, when I said that I was a
writer they wanted to know what I wrote. I feel society has to appreciate
teachers and all of the hard work that they do.
Teachers today have so many pressures on them especially the standardized test
that their hands are tied and cannot teach what our children really need to
learn. I always wanted my students to be able to leave my classroom and be
able to function in the real world. I wanted them to be
aware of what was going on in their city, state and country, be
wise consumers, know the law and how to
obtain and succeed on a job.
Teachers should be involved in any talk of educational reform. They are on
the front lines and change will take place in their classrooms. We also
have to listen to the students and parents.
